UK's Leading Dumbwaiter Lifts Specialists
Husbands are the oldest and most recognised Dumb waiter and food lift experts in the UK.
A dumbwaiter is a small lift that is used to transport goods or food between different levels of a building. It is designed to carry items that are too heavy or bulky for someone to carry up and down stairs.
Dumbwaiters are typically found in restaurants (food lifts), hotels, retail shops and other commercial buildings, although they can also be installed in homes as residential dumbwaiters.
A Dumb waiter can be a great convenience for businesses and homeowners who need to transport items between floors quickly and easily. They are also useful for those with limited mobility, as they can help to reduce the need for carrying heavy items up and down stairs. Overall, dumbwaiters are a practical and efficient solution for moving goods and food between different levels of a building.
With our cutting-edge Commercial Dumbwaiters, we specialise in making life easier and more efficient.
These aren’t your typical small service lifts, but rather innovative, high-performance solutions we have designed to transport goods between floors seamlessly.
We understand that each setting has different requirements, our Dummywaiters are available in two capacity options: 50kg and 100kg.
If you need a kitchen lift, we have you covered.
Our Commercial Dumbwaiter Lifts
Dumbwaiters come in a variety of styles, we provide two robust options in our service lift range to meet a variety of needs: our 50kg and 100kg capacity.
The 50kg Balmatic Service Lift is a dependable ally in smaller commercial settings. Consider a busy café, a cosy pub, or a small restaurant where plates, glasses, and meals must be moved between floors on a regular basis.
This is where our restaurant lift excels. It’s even common in these situations to have more than one such lift. You could have a ‘clean’ dumbwaiter that transports freshly cooked food from the kitchen to the dining area and another that transports used dishes away. Efficiency and cleanliness rolled into one.
100kg Balmatic Service Lift: Moving up in size, we have the 100kg model.
This one is intended for high-traffic environments such as large restaurants, hotels, and even industrial settings such as factories. The 100kg lift can also handle it. It all comes down to moving larger loads quickly and safely. These automatic service lifts benefit more than just the commercial sector. Our 50kg and 100kg models are both suitable for home use.
These lifts are game changers for moving laundry in a multi-story house or transferring groceries from a basement garage to the kitchen. So, whether it’s the lighter loads of the 50kg lift or the heavy-duty operation of the 100kg model, Husbands Lifts has the right automatic service lift for you. Transform the way you move items in your space with our Restaurant Dumbwaiter Lifts.

Dumbwaiter Lifts Installation Process
So you’ve made the decision to install a modern dumbwaiter lift. Excellent decision! But how do we get from decision to implementation? Let’s dissect it.
First and foremost, you’ll need a team of professional lift engineers on the job, which is what we provide! Installing a lift into a standard blockwork or studwork shaft typically takes 1 to 2 days on site.
We’ll conduct a thorough lift survey before we begin the installation. This allows us to better understand what is required and to identify any potential roadblocks. This allows us to ensure that your lift installation goes as smoothly as possible.
After we complete our survey, we will provide you with a builders work document. This instructs your builder or carpenter on everything they need to know in order to prepare the proper space for the dumbwaiter installation.
Our lift engineers get to work once everything is in place. We like to arrive early to assess the site and agree on the best installation procedure. Then it’s time to install your dumbwaiter.
Once the lift is installed, it is up to your builder or carpenter to clad or box in the lift. The material is up to you, but it’s usually plasterboard.
We return to the site after the cladding to power up the dumbwaiter lift and configure the stopping levels and other settings. We typically prefer a 3-phase power supply over a 1-phase power supply to ensure that your lift runs smoothly.
Finally, we sign the lift commission documents and your new dumbwaiter lift is operational!
That’s it – from the decision to installation, Husbands Lifts handles everything to ensure your dumbwaiter lift works flawlessly from the start. Are you ready to begin? Contact us right away!

Why Are They Called Dumbwaiter Lifts?
Have you ever wondered why they’re referred to as “dumbwaiters”? It all comes down to their silent service. These convenient lifts first appeared in large homes with basement kitchens. They quietly brought up food and removed dirty dishes without disturbing the diners upstairs.
Dumbwaiters meant less carrying for the staff as well as fewer kitchen noises, odours, and heat entering the dining area. Wouldn’t you say it’s a game changer for comfortable dining?
These useful lifts have also acquired a few different names over time. Depending on where you are, they may be referred to as service lifts or food lifts.
So, that’s the story behind the “dumbwaiter”. It’s not just about the name though, it’s about making life easier, quieter, and more efficient, just like our Balmatic Dumbwaiters at Husbands Lifts.
How Does A Dumbwaiter Lift Work?
Behind the swift, silent service of our Balmatic Dumbwaiters is a modern marvel: electric models powered by an advanced rope-driven traction system. This is what makes moving items between floors as simple as pressing a button.
We’ve replaced the old pulley system with a cutting-edge electric motor at the heart of this operation. This is what happens: You load your items into the lift car.
When you press the button on the button panel, the motor starts pulling on the ropes and guiding the car up and down the rails.
But what about the operation’s safety? Our dumbwaiters are outfitted with cutting-edge safety features.
We have door interlocks that prevent the vehicle from moving until all doors are securely shut. Furthermore, overload sensors ensure that the lift is not carrying more weight than it is capable of.
So, the next time you use a Balmatic Dumbwaiter, you’ll know exactly what’s going on behind the scenes: an elegant blend of modern technology, dependable operation, and superior safety features, all working together to simplify your tasks.
